Happy Canada Day

Posted by Jerome & Galuh

Today is the national holiday of Canada which is known as Canada Day. Today is Canada 138th birthday.

I almost forgot to say Happy Canada Day to my husband and friends here in Indonesia. When I sent a text to Jerome, he said "Thanks. You should become Canadian too!" He really want me to be a Canadian. But I can not decide yet whether want to be canadian or not. I am very proud to be Indonesian with all strengths and weaknesses of my country. I only want to be Canadian if I do not have to leave out my own nationality. Government of Indonesia does not allow their citizen to have double citizenship yet. Hopefully, someday they will revise this rule.

Canada Day is an unique affair. In Canada, most people from small towns and big cities will attend outdoor parties, barbecues, dances and watch fireworks at night. It is a relaxed, festive time where people celebrate how great it is to be Canadian.

Here are some facts you should know about Canada (this was sent it by our friend) :

  • Canada has more automobiles per person than any other country with at least one automobile for every two Canadians.
  • Canada is often thought of as the land of ice and snow. While winter temperatures do tend to verge on the unbearable side, summer temperatures can often reach 35 degrees Celcius-making summer equally unbearable. It is good thing we have fall and spring to prepare us!
  • Canada is the world's second-largest country (9 970 610 km2), surpassed only by the Russian Federation.
  • The Trans-Canada Highway length is 7604 km. It is the longest national highway in the world.
  • 49% of Toronto's population was born outside of Canada, up from 48% in 1996.

We wish all Canadians, especially our family and friends, A Very Happy Canada Day. We wish you all the best. Love you all!
